9. Surgical Technologist

Surgical technologists assist in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other personnel in authority. Surgical techs help prepare the patient and operating room prior to surgery, transport patients, and aides in hemostasis if experienced enough.

Surgical tech training can last anywhere from 9 to 24 months. Professional certification is not required, but many employers prefer to hire certified surgical techs. Formal training is offered by many community and junior colleges, vocational schools, and universities. Degree program coursework includes pharmacology and ethics as well as supervised clinical work.
