EMT and Paramedic
In an emergency, EMTs and paramedics are typically dispatched by a 911 operator to the scene, where they often work with police and fire fighters. Once they arrive, EMTs and paramedics assess the nature of the patient’s condition while trying to determine whether the patient has any pre-existing medical conditions. Following medical protocols and guidelines, they provide appropriate emergency care and, when necessary, transport the patient. Some paramedics are trained to treat patients with minor injuries on the scene of an accident or they may treat them at their home without transporting them to a medical facility. Emergency treatment is carried out under the medical direction of physicians.

Job Outlook: Employment for EMTs and paramedics is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2016. Job prospects should be good, particularly in cities and private ambulance services.
Job prospects should be favorable. Many job openings will arise from growth and from the need to replace workers who leave the occupation because of the limited potential for advancement, as well as the modest pay and benefits in private-sector jobs.

Get your facts straight...a Physician Assistant degree is no longer a Bachelor Degree (P.A. requires a Masters) and a Registered Nurse is an Associate of Science degree (but it is more competitive to have a B.S.)(my wife is an RN).

Dear Maldonado17. As a recent college graduate (5 years ago), I would recommend anything which relates to Information Technology or any Health Profession which deals directly with hospital or clinic patients. I went to school for Physical Education K-12 and that is a dying field. Therefore, I was unable to find anything. Really do your research on what you want to do for 30+ years of your life because what you decide now, will effect your future. Ask your guidance counselor at school for some ideas on universities to attend for what you want to do. Make sure they have the exact program and it falls within your budget. There is financial aid for those who fall in that category. Do your research and you will be fine! I hope this helps!!

I’m currently enrolled in school for an AA in Accounting and a BA in Health Management and I need some guidance in positions I will be qualified for once I complete my courses. I’m currently in the hospitality industry, Food and Beverage Accounting, and I’m looking for a career with stability. What type of positions should I apply for to put me in the direction of Health Management, gain the experience within the HealthCare industry, being that I have no HealthCare experience?

Hi,I am a GP running my own Medical Center in India for the last 18 years. I would now like to to relocate to US (my daughter is there on a student visa) in the health care management field. I have a load of experience running a Primary Care practice but no degree in Health Care Management( I have an M.B.B.S. degree ).What are my chances of getting a job?I have applied to a part-time post-graduate program in Hospital and Health Care Management but that will only be complete by end 2010. I am already 44 years old.

Hi. I'm receiving my BA in Heath Management next week. I've been working as a Developmental Aide working with adults with mental and physical disabilities for 4 years. I'm looking forward to moving to a management position instead of continuing the important grunt work of this field. It will be nice to finally make more than $30,000 a year. Like any other college student, I'm feeling nervous about the career jump and now I'm really just wondering what kind of jobs I'll even be up for? Working in a hospital is not the end of the world but besides a hospital what else is out there for me to possibly look into?

1. THANK You lucymd5c, the pre. reqs. alone entail B.A. prob. R.N. or hard science
2. anu_rraj, without exp.first in Health care, well lots of health care professional go MBA (i'm considering this, but ugh)...best fastest advice....find a JCERT accredited Allied Health care Program (generally a 2yr stint) like cardiovascular or radiography, you get the idea, find any job keep applying to your MBA Potentials (i.e. dont give up, but do something meanwhile), get the exp and the career will come
3. nita2008...get in health care while you achieve an MBA, BBA can get you in Law school too
QUESTION: of the listed "hot jobs" I would love to hear THE DOWNSIDE from people who have learned it, done it, run it, taught it and went back into the field....I did that exact pattern beginning school 93, if any interested I can opine my view of overt and subtle downsides to both Nuke Med, and the "new" field of education (Pump and dump, both students and educators, $$$in their eyes

I have been ins earch for a position in this field for the past 3 months, and I have applied to 2 or 3 but I never hear back from the employers. I know I am qualified and have the education but I am getting no responses. Is it the Economy or what? I have my BBA with a concentration in Healthcare Management. About to give up and consider something else although I don't really want to. I need to make more money.

NY State allows substance abuse counselors to practice without a license, but under the supervision of a psychologist or psychiatrist. Also, the state substance abuse agency offers a credential (CASAC) that is recognized by employers as proof of professional training. However, a CASAC counselor must still be supervised by a psychologist or psychiatrist. CASAC training is available through both college BA and MA programs and continuing education programs.
