Radiologic Technologist
Radiologic technologists perform a number of different tasks, making their jobs vital parts of every health system. Specialization allows for variation in salaries. An associate or bachelor’s degree is most common, as those with advanced degrees are typically on the path toward becoming a radiologist, which requires an MD.
There are more than 600 accredited radiography programs in the US. Courses include classwork and clinical instruction in patient care procedures, radiation physics, medical terminology, and radiobiology, among others. Specialization typically comes after additional education and training in areas such as CT scanning, angiography, or mammography. Those interested in pursing a position as director or chief radiologic technologist may want to consider a master’s degree in business or health administration.
