About Me
Susan A. Leys ( the Founder and C.E.O. of Critical Success Strategies, LLC and RN-Coach.com ) is a healthcare consultant, facilitator and executive coach with over 15 years of experience working in healthcare organizations including emergency departments, acute care units and inpatient and outpatient environments. She has consulted with Nurses, Physicians and healthcare leadership teams assisting them with developing the critical interpersonal and collaborative skills necessary to provide compassionate care throughout healthcare systems.
Susan holds a Masters degree and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Counseling Psychology from Springfield College and a Graduate Certificate in the Business of Medicine from Johns Hopkins University. Her undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Legal Studies provided her with insight into the critical skills and insight necessary to navigate fast-paced, critical situations on a daily basis. She is a member of Psi Chi (the honors society for Psychology), the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation and the American Academy for Experts in Traumatic Stress. Additionally, Susan is a Member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Premier Speakers Bureau for the National Center for Crisis Management.
Susan’s love of sailing helped develop the rest of the foundation on which her executive coaching is based. She states “growing up in Rhode Island and being near the ocean, sailing provided a lot of ‘life lessons’ for me. Sailing ‘close-hauled’ is a term we use when sailing upwind. It tends to be the more challenging point of sail - especially when the wind is up and the waves are coming over the bow of the boat. Of course, there were also many ‘downwind’ days where we would feel the warm sun on our backs as we sailed back into the harbor, but I think we all appreciated the warmth and contentment of the downwind sail having endured the challenges close-hauled.”
