Posted about 1 year ago I am currently a medical secretary and would like to move up to office manager. Does everyone in this positions have their degree in Medical Adminstration or is it possible to move up without it? Thanks! |

| Posted about 1 year ago I am a receptionist for a physician who has his own practice, and our office manager does not have a medical administration degree (actually she only has a bachelor's in business & administration), so I definitely believe that you could move up the corporate ladder. | Posted about 1 year ago I am an Office Manager without a degree, although I have years of college education and experiences ranging from Medical Assistant, Receptionist, Community Affairs Specialist to Medical Office Management. It important to have good problem solving skills and interpersonal skills. It can happen for you if that's what you want.

| Posted about 1 year ago I don't think the degree is as important as the experience. In my past position, the office manager was a MA, and taking classes toward a degree. In the doctor's office I started at, the office manager was a MA also. No other degree, but lots of experience. Be sure to show initiative, and take ongoing ed classes to keep bettering yourself, and you're sure to move up the ladder! |

| Posted about 1 year ago I am currently a Health Unit Coordinator, and in the same situation. I actually have gotten interviews for Office manager jobs, but I've decided that I would just go big. So I started a Health Admin program. You just need to ask yourself if you'll be satisfied in the end with just that. Not to mention if you have a degree they normally pay you more. (That was my problem. They couldn't pay me enough to match my current salary) |

It makes a huge difference not only to your own self esteem but also as a means to increase your earning potential and climb the corporate ladder.
